While the government is shut down, all public programs on the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuges have been suspended, and the Visitor Center and our Nature Store will remain closed until the shutdown is over.
Although public trails will remain open, remember that there will be virtually no staff to maintain them. Consider checking out other parks instead to reduce visitation impacts. If you do visit a Refuge, practice leave no trace principles, follow trail guidelines, and leave the habitat better than you found it. The wildlife and our communities are depending on it!
The San Francisco Bay Wildlife Society, as an independent nonprofit Friends group, can still work off-Refuge to support the SF Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex. We’ll do what we can, but it takes *all* of us to help our Wildlife Refuges.
We look forward to resuming our public programs when the shutdown is lifted!
