This summer, our wonderful volunteers at the Nature Store held two Make Your Own Ice Cream events! Inspired by childhood science activities and the importance of salt in the Bay Area, volunteers Lily Thavy, John Voong, Connie Lee, and Katie Kao banded together to plan these engaging programs. In July and September, participants experienced firsthand the science of using the simple combination of salt and ice to make ice cream. We also shared the significance of salt in the ecosystem and the importance of protecting the surrounding habitats that support countless species of wildlife. Participants of all ages attended and enjoyed a delicious treat together as a community!

Special thanks to Cargill for donating the salt!
