The California Native Plant Society (Santa Clara Valley Chapter) in association with UCCE Master Gardeners of Santa Clara County present the 2021 Going Native Garden Tour.

Bay Area homeowners are making their gardens aesthetically pleasing, attractive to birds and butterflies, water-wise, and low maintenance by incorporating California native plants. Visit gardens landscaped with native plants on this free annual tour.

Northern Gardens (Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Altos, and San Mateo County)
Southern Gardens (Cupertino, Santa Clara, Campbell, San Jose and south)

Since 2003, Going Native Garden Tour offered in-person garden visits each spring. Starting in 2020, virtual garden tours are also offered online throughout the year.

The garden at the Don Edwards SFBNWR Environmental Education Center, Alviso is part of the Going Native Garden Tour. It was established to provide habitat for songbirds and butterflies, and to demonstrate herbicide-free gardening for wildlife using beautiful California native plants. It contains mature specimens of Ceanothus, fuchsia-flowered gooseberry, pink flowering currant, and black sage in a natural setting. Among trees, look for California buckeye, western sycamore, Fremont cottonwood, and alder.

If you live in Santa Clara County or San Mateo County, and California native plants are 70% or more of your garden, we invite you to submit your garden for inclusion in the Going Native Garden Tour 2022. The submission deadline is Sun, Oct 31, 2021, 11:59 pm.

You may also choose to serve as a tour volunteer.

Tour volunteers can visit tour gardens throughout the year through a series of Garden Preview events and receive a custom GNGT T-shirt with artwork that changes yearly. Tour volunteers work one 3-hour shift on tour day at one of the gardens either as a docent or as a greeter.
